Zytiga Prostate Cancer Drug Approved by FDA
A new advanced prostate cancer drug, which can be used in those with later stage prostate cancer who have not responded well to the typical treatments out there, has actually been approved earlier than it was thought by the FDA.
The drug is called Zytiga, and it is going to probably be a big seller for the company that made it, Johnson and Johnson, which is no stranger to selling blockbuster drugs and heck, blockbuster items in general, here in the US.
Johnson and Johnson expects the drug to produce approximately one billion dollars a year in revenue. At least that’s what the analysts think, not J&J themselves (correcting myself).
This drug is expected to be used in patients who have advanced prostate cancer that has not responded to the typical therapies that are available today. Johnson and Johnson says that the drug extended the lives of advanced stage prostate cancer patients by about 4 months on average.
While this isn’t exactly earth shattering, since it did not save the patient’s lives, but instead extended their lives, it’s definitely a promising step in the right direction when it comes to the male cancer that has claimed so many lives, which is also very treatable when caught early on.
The real shame is that many men let the symptoms of early prostate cancer pass them by and think they will just subside. Things like difficulty urinating are a really clear sign that something is wrong. That’s something that should prompt any man to go to his doctor and get a checkup.
We all know how sometimes life just gets in the way though. We often think that these types of issues are passing, and that we couldn’t possibly have a disease that frightens us ot even think it. However, it’s of vital importance that men mind their prostate health, and listen to their bodies.
Problems urinating is the most common sign something may be wrong with the prostate, and it’s a sure sign that you should get yourself into the doctor asap.
