We Think We Look Pretty Good!

In terms of physical attractiveness, apparently us Americans tend to think we are pretty good looking people. Or at least we think that we are above average, when questioned about how we rate our looks.  This kind of counters the thought that so many Americans are overweight and think that they can’t live up to the exceedingly high standards set by advertisements featuring Hollywood movie stars and models, both male and female.

Even after all of those impossible standards, we still think we’re pretty damn hot!  When surveyed, the most confident group appeared to be those that were approaching their thirties or in their early thirties, which happens to be my age group.

Men and women weren’t too different either, so for all those sad sack friends that think they don’t cut the mustard with the ladies, inside they really think they’re easier on the eyes than they let on.  I supposed this is good news. After all, we wouldn’t want a country full of people with low self esteem. Also, most people aren’t surrounded by model perfect looking coworkers and friends and family unless they are in showbiz or something. Even then, makeup and all that can definitely be deceiving, so I’ve heard.

I’m not sure where I would fall in this survey. I guess it depends on the day. Sometimes I wake up and feel like I look pretty damn good, for my age, my weight and my level of stress or whatever happens to be affecting me that day.

Other days I think that I got beaten with the ugly stick, and I’m not sure if I can do anything to make myself look good. You wouldn’t think that your self perception would vary that much, but it most certainly does.  Apparently though, collectively as a society, we all think we look a little bit above the average joe, and that’s just great if you ask me!
