Viagra to Fight Cancer?
Well, we know that Viagra, the male enhancement drug that took the world by storm several years ago and seems to have never stopped the dance of huge financial success, may not just be able to help your reproductive abilities jump and your sex drive increase.
The wonder impotence and sex enhancer drug may also help you to fight cancer by boosting some of the cancer-fighting cells that the body creates on its own. Could this be that this already blockbusting drug could have yet another use beyond the simple conventional use of increasing sex drive and improving people’s sex lives?
At least it appears to work this way in the studies of mice that are currently happening. Mice that are engineered to get melanoma, a form of skin cancer that is very serious, showed a better immune response to cancer cells than the mice who were not fed the impotence drug.
They found that the mice tended to fight off the cancer much more effectively because the drug appeared to help switch on dormant T cells. T cells are the cells in the body that fight off cancerous cells and cancerous formation in the body in both humans and mice, so the indications seem good that this same theory may hold for humans as well.
It appears to activate these cells and help the body to rally better against cancer for some reason, although of course it is not entirely clear why. The thought is that Viagra, or silenafil citrate, which is the generic name for the drug, may be able to help in other immune-suppressive cancer treatments to offset the effects of them.
Typically, the most popular cancer treatment and most toxic, chemotherapy, shuts down the immune system and causes so many problems of its own that many people end up dying as a side effect of the very drug that is supposed to be treating them. If Viagra, or some other similar male impotence drug, can help offset this effect or even be used on its own to help the body’s own defenses fight cancer, then it would be a huge boon to the cancer industry.
Viagra, of course, is mostly known for increasing the blood flow the the penile chambers that are responsible for men getting an erection. Could it be that the effects of this drug span further than just the bedroom? We shall see….
