Sexomnia : A New Disorder?
It’s not a new disorder, in fact it’s probably been going on for a long timee! Well, we’ve all heard of insomnia, the disorder where people cannot sleep and often have trouble getting a full night’s sleep. Now, there’s been a newly coined disorder that has to do with sex and sleep, called “sexomnia”.
Sexomnia is a condition where people who are, for all intents and purposes, “asleep” seek out sex with their partners, and as if they are sleep walking, have no recollection of doing so the next day.
Sexomnia has been described as a mix between having a sexual dream and sleepwalking, which the first is fairly common, and the latter is fairly rare.
Most partners of sexomniacs report that they are convinced their partner is asleep while they initiate sex with them, and are only corroborated further when they remember nothing the next day, but their partner, who was awake during the interlude, remembers it all.
It only gets dangerous when people engage in sexually risky behaviors and cannot wake up if it’s not to the liking of their partner, but other than that, it has not resulted in any major incidents as of yet, and most partner of sexomniacs say they actually don’t mind it!
