Sad News : Prostate Cancer Death
In sad news in my family, a dear uncle has passed away in my family who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer over four years ago. When he was initially diagnosed, we were all hopeful that the cancer had been caught in time and that the grueling treatments that he had to undergo would be worth it and would kick the cancer’s butt. But alas, he struggled with it for more than 4 years, only to end up being in stage 4, the last stage of prostate cancer, for the last two years of his life. He went through the first year pretty well with minimal pain, but the last year has been very rough on him, and he wasn’t ready to give up without a fight.
Cancer is such a terrible thing. No matter what kind of cancer it starts off as, if a person does not win the fight with cancer, what it does to the body and the mind (well, really mostly what the drugs do to the body and mind), is just awful. It’s a very de-spiriting disease. I’ve had a few family members that have died from cancer, and I’ve seen them go from spirited, healthy and vibrant people, to looking like they aged a hundred years within months. It’s heart breaking.
If we could find a cure for cancer, it would mean one less dehumanizing, demoralizing disease that we could die from. It was a mercy that my uncle finally died, but it was bittersweet of course as well. His weight had dropped so badly that he could barely support himself on legs that looked like twigs. He knew who I was the last I had seen him, but barely. They had put him on methadone, the same drug they give to heroine addicts to help keep them off the drug, for the pain, and he was so out of it that nothing he said made sense, and nothing we said made sense to him.
He died with his wonderful girlfriend of many years by his side. She took care of him til the very end, and I thank God that he had her. Fellas, this is a reminder to treat your body right and do all that you can to make sure you don’t get prostate cancer, or any of the other cancers that are out there. I know that you can’t totally avoid it sometimes, no matter what your diet or lifestyle, but if you can lessen the likelihood and help increase the health of your prostate, that’s all that much better for your longevity. Take care everyone, and thank you for listening to me. I appreciate all my readers and only want them to have the best in health.
