Diagnosis and Treatment of Prostatitis:
When a person has any of the above mentioned prostatitis symptoms and approaches his doctor, the doctor may order for a urological exam which includes urinalysis, rectal exam, prostate gland test to see if it is enlarged, prostate fluid test to see if there is any infection, rectal ultrasound and finally a biopsy of prostate.
Treatment options:
There are many treatments available for this disorder. Treatment options depend on the type of prostatitis diagnosed. Some treatments include sitz baths, sitting in warm water for few minutes, antibiotics, pain relief medicines. In case of enlarged prostate the treatment options are removing the infected portion or cut back the supply of androgen’s.
How to maintain prostate health?
It is always best thing to follow proper lifestyle to avoid any kind of health problems including problems of prostate health.
Eat a very well balanced diet, which includes proteins, fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains. Avoid alcohol. If you cannot avoid alcohol, take a very little quantity.
Include soy foods in your diet. It is proven to be good for reducing the risk of prostate problems. Consume seafood rich in Omega 3 fatty acids like salmon, or take omega 3 supplements. Vitamin D is also very important for your body. Take time to expose yourself to morning sunlight. If you can’t do that, try to take vitamin D supplements.
Quit your sedentary life and be active all the time which may include cutting back hours that you spend in front of television or computer. Do some physical exercise like walking or swimming at least 3 to 4 times a week.
If possible cut back on meat, and incline towards taking fresh vegetables every day. Recent researches also showed that consuming cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli more helps in reducing the risk prostrate related problems.
Before taking any of the vitamin supplements or following any treatments carefully discuss your problem with your doctor and find out which treatment options are good for you. Good health always comes with good lifestyle. Although prostatitis may not lead to cancer it is good to get your prostate health checked regularly to avoid any such risks.
