Prostate Cancer Treatments More Expensive, Not More Effective
Prostate cancer is still one of the most common male-centric cancers today that kill men and dramatically reduce their quality of life in their later years.
Some men get prostate cancer when they’re younger, and typically considered low risk for this type of cancer, but mostly men that are fifty and older are at a higher risk for this cancer since this tiny little gland tends to wear out and act up as men age.
As with many other cancers though, prostate cancer still has not found a great method of treatment. Even though it is fairly treatable in it’s earlier stages when it is caught before it has metastisized to other tissues in the body, it still has not had the benefit of getting a laser targeted treatment for the specifcs of the cancer.
There are some hormone treatments that can be done along with radiation, but even those fall short sometimes. The key to beating prostate cancer is finding it early on, reporting issues with urination to your doctor as soon as you begin to see any sort of symptoms of prostate issues.
The treatments, although they have become more elaborate as well as a lot more expensive, unfortunately don’t give men any more chances at survival or even a higher quality of life than the less sophisticated, and much less costly, forms of treatment.
It’s the typical case of the tail wagging the dog, and the medical industry trying to push more expensive treatments to those that can afford it or have great medical coverage, instead of giving patients the most effective treatment for their illness, and giving them the greatest chances.
Statistically, these more expensive forms of radiation and a few other more experimental forms of prostate cancer treatment, do not provide men with a better outlook. Remember, preventive measures are the best way to ensure you keep your prostate healthy.
Eating right, exercising, reducing stress and anxiety in your life, and taking supplements for prostate health are just a few of the ways you can decrease your chances of getting this cancer right out of the gate.
