New Contraceptive Gel May Be Available Soon
Hi ladies and gents, it’s Jill here, to give you a story from a woman’s perspective – about something that affects both women and men in the end – birth control. That’s right, it’s the stuff that let’s us get our sex without getting pregnant every time we have a little slip up, and it’s dramatically increased women’s enjoyment of sex since she doesn’t have to worry constantly about becoming pregnant from having sexual intercourse.
Birth control in general has been a great boon for women, not only as a “women’s lib” addition and the ability to have sex without constant worry, like a man basically can, but also has increased the quality of life for many women who have avoided unwanted pregnancies before they were ready to conceive. Now, you pretty much have a lot at your disposal if you do not wish to become pregnant.
The birth control pill offers almost 100% protection against unwanted pregnancy, and there are other options like the patch, injections and vaginal and cervical inserts as well. There is pretty much something for every woman when it comes to avoiding pregnancy now.
And now, supposedly in the next five years or so, there will probably be another addition to the expanding family of birth control options for women, and this one supposedly does not have the birth control pill side effects like loss of female libido, weight gain and mood swings.
It’s a birth control gel, and it only needs to be rubbed in small amounts on areas like the abdomen, thighs or shoulders to activate. It contains hormones which release quickly into the blood stream via transdermal technology. Only a small group of women have tested this birth control gel to see if it works to prevent pregnancy, but none of them got pregnant, so that’s a good start to determining whether this may be a good option in the future.
The biggest thing, for me, as a woman, would be that it is side effect free. I hate the fact that my pill makes me gain weight, and if that one unfortunate side effect could be avoided, I’d be in love!
