Letterman Sex Scandal
David Letterman, who has cracked jokes on the air for about twenty years now, and who is one of my favorite late night hosts aside from Conan O’Brien, has apparently been involved in some extracurricular activities with women he has worked with, that have gotten him into hot water with an extortion attempt by a producer of a popular television show. It’s amazing to me how many people that are famous or rich have been blackmailed with embarrassing information about their personal lives.
We’ve had John Travolta, who was blackmailed with documents in the death of his son by a medic who worked the case (shame on these people, really, it’s disgusting and inhuman to even think of taking advantage of people like that), and then there was a case with a famous coach who had an extramarital affair and then was blackmailed over that as well.
Now, David Letterman has surprised his audience a few nights ago with claims that he was attempted to be blackmailed a few weeks ago when he received a package in his car after work from someone claiming that they knew he did some bad things and had the proof to back it up enclosed as well.
The extortionist was wanting to be paid $2 million to make these claims, which incidentally, Dave himself admitted (I gotta give the man serious kudos for admitting it instead of giving into this scumbag), are true, disappear into thin air. Apparently when the blackmailer was presented with a fake $2 million dollar check, the fraud was completed, and he was arrested.
Dave then came out on his show and admitted to affairs with women he works with over several years saying that he wants to protect people’s privacy and needs to do the right thing. The audience was reportedly kind of confused over whether this was part of a bit for him or was actually true, nervously laughing during certain parts when he attempted to make jokes out of an obviously precarious situation. More and more of these sex scandals seem to be making their way out, it’s no wonder that women even trust men with money at all!
I guess that all’s fair in love and war, and obviously there is a lot of regret in this case. We’ll see where things go from here.
