Does Medicare Cover Viagra?

I was curious about this, so I looked it up, and couldn’t find a definite answer.  On one hand, I found that politicians had rejected the request to have Medicare cover sexual enhancement drugs such as Viagra, because they viewed them as “recreational” in nature.  This means they don’t want to approve a drug if it’s not medical necessity or life and death matters.

Medicaid and Medicare are government funded programs that help the elderly and the poor to pay for medical care.  One representative was quoted as saying that the government funded programs were meant to pay for life saving drugs, not lifestyle drugs.

Of course the pharmaceutical industry keeps appealing this decision, since they are missing out on big insurance bucks for male sexual enhancement products such as Cialis and Viagra.  That news occurred back in 2005.  Now, it may be looking a little different for Medicare coverage of the sexual and impotence drugs that help men get a natural gain of sexual lust, desire and ability to perform sexually.

Another report after that said that a decision was made to make Viagra available under a prescription plan offered by Medicare.  Looks like the pharmaceutical industry won this one, huh?  I didn’t see any news that this was reversed, so I’m assuming it’s still true.  Wonder if they’ll ever cover natural male sexual enhancement products?  Hmmm…..just kidding..
