Couple Has Child After Failed Vasectomy – For Costs of Child
Well, you hear something new every day. I for one happen to believe that we are all a little too “sue happy” here in the US, because there have been so many ridiculous lawsuits that have won ridiculous amounts of money.
I understand that there are legitimate reasons that people should be allow to sue for malpractice, but sometimes I wonder how much this is costing everyone else in the end. After all, lawsuits costs doctors and hospitals a ton of money.
The doctors that work in hospitals or for their own practice now have to pay such enormous amounts of money for malpractice insurance that inevitably, that cost is passed on to consumers. It is definitely one of the reasons that health costs are so high today for so many Americans.
An Oregon couple is suing a Doctor for a botched vasectomy which allowed the woman to get pregnant. Apparently, the man went in to get a vasectomy is 2007, and the Doctor had difficulties with it because his tubes were very narrow.
The vasectomy must not have fully taken, because the couple ended up conceiving a child. They are actually suing the Doctor for the costs of having a child, so they are asking for something like $650k for the costs of rearing the child as well as education costs when the child gets older.
This is a new one to me. Never heard of a couple suing a doctor for a kid’s costs after a failed tube tying or vasectomy. But hey, there’s a first time for everything, right!?
