5 Reasons Men Shouldn’t Smoke

There are, of course, numerous reasons why both men and women shouldn’t smoke. However, there are a few reasons that apply solely to men due to their specific anatomy, and because men tend to be more susceptible to certain types of disease than women naturally.

Let’s get down to it.  Here are the top 5 reasons men shouldn’t smoke, and why if they do, they should consider quitting their top priority in 2012.

1.)  Prostate cancer – There is an increased risk of developing prostate cancer if you are a male smoker.  Prostate cancer is affected by a variety of lifestyle habits, and smoking cigarettes (or marijuana or cigars for that matter) has a carcinogenic effect on this important male organ.  Smoking also increases the risk of other cancers in men such as lung and pancreatic cancer as well.

2.)  Increased heart attack risk – Men are especially susceptible to heart disease, although of course women can fall victim to heart problems as well. While heart disease may take on an array of genetic causes as well, smoking just really adds an even larger risk, especially if you already have family members who have had heart problems.

3.)  Increased risk of stroke – Men are susceptible to stroke as well, and hyptertension which contributes both to heart attacks and strokes.  Smoking is really, reall bad for your blood pressure. Most people think that smoking relaxes them.

It is in fact a stimulant, and it can increase blood pressure and make it rise and drop dangerously.  In the end, what you think is relaxing you is really making your more anxious, and inching up your risk of heart attack and stroke with every puff.  Once you quit, you’ll feel the difference after the initial edge has worn off and realize how edgy cigarettes made you.

4.)  Smoking makes you look older – Smoking is one of the worst habits to take up if you want to look young and healthy for as long as you possibly can.  It is truly a villain when it comes to your skin, hair, teeth and your general appearance.  Yellow teeth, hair that smells and looks drab and skin that looks sallow and unhealthy is definitely not in the definition of attractive!

5.)  They cost a lot, and are only going to rise more in cost.  Smoking has become a very expensive habit. The cost of a box of cigarettes is anywhere from $6 to $8, depending on the brand. If you’re in a high priced locale, then you’ll be paying up to ten bucks a pack.

With this money, you could be buying lots of stuff that actually enhances your life, not just throwing it down the toilet on something that makes you unhealthy and miserable in the end.
