Yikes, South Africa Removes Condoms

Locally made condoms were recalled in Africa lately, to the tune of hundreds of thousands of the homeland made condoms, because they failed the all too important, blow up test.  Well, they “blew up” when they shouldn’t have with a standardized air pressure test to see if they could reasonably withstand the pressure of sexual intercourse.  They failed miserably, and Africa’s efforts to fight AIDs by self manufacturing condoms for cheap distribution was set back.

Africa still suffers a terribly high rate of the HIV virus, and this is in part due to a lack of sexual education, too much unprotected sex because of poverty an unavailability of condoms, which protect against the HIV virus when used to have sex, and because of a more rampant, deadly and quick spreading strain of the disease.

This all happened at a really bad time, since a government agency was caught trying to be bribed to approve some obviously faulty condoms.  Wow, great political system I see!  The US does have efforts going on in the form of sexual education and other aids going on over in Africa, but the problem still remains a largely unsolved one, with thousands dying every year, many of them children with no chance to even really “live”.  Very bad, sad state of affairs.  When you think your life is bad, remember, it could be much much worse!
