B Vitamins, Zinc and Men’s Hair Loss

Hair loss for men is often considered just an unfortunate consequence of genetics and androgens that is inevitable for certain men as they age.  There are many other factors that effect hair loss in men.  Nutririon, in fact, can play an important role in maintaining the health of your hair throughout life.

Particular vitamins and minerals are key to keeping your hair longer and minimizing hair loss.  Diets that are deficient in B vitamins and the minerals magnesium, sulfur and zinc can be the cause of hair loss or a contributing factor.
Of the B vitamins, B5, or pantothenic acid, is particularly important to promoting hair growth and health.  Other B vitamins that are vital to hair health are B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid.  The B vitamins can be obtained nutritionally, through diet, by increasing your intake of soy beans, peas, carrots, beans, bran, nuts and eggs.  You can also take in B vitamins in supplemental form.
Other nutrients essential to the health of your hair and found in male hair loss products are the minerals zinc, sulfur and magnesium.  Zinc stimulates hair growth and enhances immune function.  For maintenance of the balance of oils in your hair, essential fatty acids in the diet or as supplements are helpful.  These nutrients will help you to avoid dry, brittle hair.  Nutritionally, you can obtain essential fatty acids through flaxseed oil, primrose oil or salmon oil.
Vitamin C and vitamin E are both noted to increase circulation to the scalp therefore minimizing hair loss from poor circulation.  On the average, humans shed about 50 to 100 strands of hair per day and this is considered normal.  If your hair loss is greater than this amount and accelerates, you may want to look at your nutritional status as a possible cause.  Changes in diet and supplements with zinc, B vitamins and vitamin A and vitamin C may help your situation . Hair analysis may be done to try to determine if there are nutritional deficiencies as a cause to male hair loss.

Men Don’t Like Having Too Much Body Hair, Either!

Most people think men are mostly concerned about male hair loss, but they are also concerned about something else when it comes to hair - body hair, to be specific.  Men do not like being overly hairy, contrary to some’s beliefs.  Men, just as much as women, like to de-hair their bodies when they become over comparative to a bear or other nasty hairy creature, and many of them either shave the hair off or use hair removers to get the job done.

The quest for stubble free legs begins for girls about age 12 or 13 and persists for a lifetime. For women in menopause or, at any phase of life, there’s nothing worse cosmetically than those unwanted hairs that sprout up on your chin or upper lip.  There’s a number of different methods to remedy the problem of unwanted hair.

There’s the method of waxing the area with the unwanted hairs.  Essentially, you heat wax until it’s warm and melted and apply it to the problem area. After the wax has cooled and hardened, you pull it off and the unwanted hairs come off with the wax. Veet features waxing products that pull the hair out from the root which means the hair will not grow back for up to 4 weeks.
Veet has a full line of depilatory products besides their waxing products.  Veet produces creams, mousses and lotions that dissolve the proteins that make up the hair shaft.  Nair is another company that features depilatory items for smoother, stubble free legs.  They have a hair removal cream or a hair remover spray for use on your legs.

There’s a depilatory that is herbal called Kalo.  Kalo is applied three times daily, two days consecutively, for hair removal.  Kalo slows hair growth until it is finer and weaker and eventually gone completely.  Kalo states it is natural, herbal and a painless method of hair removal.

Electrolysis is a method of hair removal that uses a medical device called epilators that destroy the growth center of the hair via short wave radio frequency.  Electrolysis requires a number of sessions and the speed of the results vary from person to person.  If you have unwanted body or facial hair, there’s many choices to deal with it besides just shaving or tweezing.

Teenagers Not Having as Much Sex

Well, after we heard what seemed like consistently worse news in the realm of teen sex and teen pregnancies and spread of STD’s, it looks like American teens are on a positive trend when it comes to abstaining from sexual activity and practicing safe sex if they choose to have sex in their teens.  What this means is that teens are healthier now, and this may be a sign of more positive upbringings and a changing attitude toward sex and choosing sex partners, with the emphasis being on individuality and not selling yourself short.

So, this means less spread of sexually transmitted diseases in the teen sector, as well as less pregnancies, and also a better attitude toward safe sex, or using condoms.  It also means a possibility that the attitude toward abstinence may be one of more acceptance and willingness to not give in to peer pressures and “blend” with the crowd by having sexual intercourse just to please friends instead of satisfying one’s own curiousity about sex.

The teen birth rate is down significantly, and the surveys are showing that teen sexual education is having a positive impact on teen sexuality and is being more readily accepted and listened to.  I can remember when I was in high school and junior high, it was almost like sex education was kind of something to be sniggered at, nothing really of any major importance because all teens think they are invincible and can never get pregnant or get a sexually transmitted disease from their sex partner (s).  But now it seems like these kids are listening a little more, and actually heeding the advice of “boring adults”, instead of laughing at it and ignoring it as useless and impractical advice that only adults would give to stop their kids from having sex at too young an age.

In addition to this good news, apparently low birth weight babies on the decline, and also more teens are finishing high school, less are dropping out (obviously), so it appears that the sexual activity relationship to education is a clearly correlated one, and they both go hand in hand.

Male Ejaculate and Fertility

There may be, in the near future, a home test that can test male semen to determine whether the man is fertile or not and can fertilize the female egg to produce offspring.  Fertility problems are either on the rise or more recognized nowadays, whether it is because we have the internet media and everyone is more aware that it is a problem or not, we do hear about fertility a lot more these days.  Usually we hear about it when it is a woman who is having fertility problems, but we know that men can have the same problems.

A man can be sterile or simply not produce enough sperm in his semen to impregnate a woman.  Sure, college guys who are nowhere near settling down and want to have sexual intercourse with no worries about making babies may think this sounds “awesome”, but when they are older they and their partners may desire to have children of their own, and male fertility issues can prevent them from reproducing.

The home test would be able to detect a protein in a man’s semen and determine from this whether the man is fertile or not.  Pretty high tech idea, and it may take a while to get to market.  I have a question though, why not just let doctors administer this test, or is this like the male equivalent of the female pregnancy test?  Might this tell men that they need to start consuming the best multivitamins for men that they can in hopes of strenghtening their sperm into better, stronger swimmer?  I keed, I keed of course.

A protein chemical called MIF for short is the chemical in a man’s body that would show up in his semen.  This chemical is supposed to be responsible for making a man’s sperm strong swimmers, so to speak, so that they can make it all the way up to the female’s egg and live long enough to burrow through the egg, fertilizing it and resulting eventually in a fetus that develops into a baby.

The problem with men who are infertile is that they either do not have this chemical at all or do not have enough of it, and their sperm are rendered weaker and unable to make the swim far enough to fertilize the woman’s egg.  They end up dying before they reach their destination, basically!  This test could help doctors and couples determine what their next steps should be, and also detects who in the partnership is the one that is unable to conceive so that they can be the one that gets the necessary treatment and increases their odds of conceiving naturally.

HIV Incidence Lower in India

It was recently reported that the incidence of the HIV virus, which becomes AIDS, or Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome when it gets to its full blown stage, is much lower in India than previously thought.  The newer, more accurate statistics are due to a better surveying system and more accurately reported incidents of the disease in hospitals etc thanks to better screening as well.

The decline in the deadly disease is credited to more outreach and education programs as well as less fear of the disease and better prevention techniques.  Even for drug users, they know that using infected needels can greatly increase their odds of getting the HIV virus and that they also can go get clean needles if needed through some outreach programs that try to clean a patient up from drugs, but also will supply clean needles if the patient is not yet off intravenous street drugs.

The new phase of a government program to help fight AIDS as well as educate against behaviors that might increase chances of getting it is set to kick off for five years, and government funding against the sexually transmitted disease has not waned because of the new statistics showing it is not at the high levels once thought.  The new programs are focusing on three things to help prevent the spread of the HIV virus :

1.)  Education on the use of condoms.

2.)  Approved and safe blood transfusion programs

3.)  AIDS education (which may include sexual behavior education to help kids understand risky sexual behavior can definitely lead to contracting the dreaded AIDS virus).

Female Mice Experience Brain Growth from Male Pheromones

Intersting stuff, definitely.  I watched a news story that talked about female mice being monitored for brain activity and brain growth, and found that female mice who were sexually aroused, presumably through the scent of the male mouse, specifically his pheromone attractants, actually had bigger brains.  How is that possible?

Well, we don’t know for sure of course, but pheromones and their implications on humans have also been widely studied without complete conclusion, but we do know that pheromones produce chemical reactions in the brains of the opposite sex when they “get a whiff”, and usually this response if a pelasurable one.  In this case it is hypothesized that female mice who are exposed to male mouse pheromones actually get smarter because of it!

We’ve talked on MaleEnhancementMagazine (see review of pheromones products) before about pheromones and people, and how there have been studies done that show that we definitely follow in the path of other species, including ants and other mammals, in that we do seem to emit and respond to pheromones, and they do account for attraction to mates to a certain extent.  We’ve all experienced those moments when we find ourselves inexplicably attracted to someone for no apparent reason.

They may not be exactly our physical “type” but we know that we feel somehow connected to them, as well as sexually attracted on some level that almost borders on subconscious.  The study with mice seems to conclude that maybe women would experience some sort of positive brain development like the female mice too, since mice are very similar to humans biologically in some ways, one might be able to hypothesize that female women may react the same way to male pheromones

Condom Testers Wanted!

This was too funny.  Talk about giving a guy a job that he doesn’t mind, and in fact, one that he might just pay you for, I saw that a condom company was hiring men as an unpaid condom tester, of course they would get free condoms, but would not be compensated monetarily otherwise for their generous testing of Durex condoms.

The condom company is recruiting about 200 Australian men and women to test its new condoms out for them, to make sure they work well and also provide a pleasurable enough experience, keeping the sensations on track for both parties involved in the sexual excursion.

The company does not offer compensation in the form of money, but the participants in its condom testing will receive a gift package of sorts of condoms and other Durex sexually themed products as well as be entered in a cash drawing (I know, whip-de-do right).  Now, I’d be impressed if this was some sort of penile enlargement or sexual enhancement condom that helped men get ready a little better for sex if you know what I mean, but there is no mention that these are anything but your average run of the mill condoms.

It of course is also to drum up some publicity for the company I’m sure, as they seem to be making a spectacle out of the contest.  The applicants are supposed to explain what makes them qualified to be one of Durex’ “acclaimed” condom testers in their applications, and the company is expecting that thousands will probably apply, whether for the experience or to have the condom testing background.

But I ask, who the heck is that going to impress?  Are you really going to put that on a job application?  Um, yes, skills and abilities : condom testing.  Just doesn’t sound right, does it?  Seriously though, if you’re Australian, you might want to hop to it and try to get in before any deadlines they have.  Who knows, you could be their star condom tester?  And you’d get to have fun doing it too, hopefully.  Talk about a novel idea as a reason for having sex!

Underwear Test Determines Male Cheats?

Apparently one scientist was jealous enough of her suspicions of infedility in her husband that she made a new invention - a device that can detect whether a man’s been unfaithful (I’ll bet it would also work on a woman) or not.  You can guess how it works (ech).  The scientist actually is being charged with using her employer’s equipment and chemicals to determine that her husband’s underwear, did, in fact contain the DNA of a woman who wasn’t her.  Yep, they’re divorcing and this whole thing was brought to light in their divorce proceedings - how lovely.

The woman who outed her cheating husband is actually an esteemed member of a genetics team who has served as expert witnesses for DNA testimony in high profile cases, and her soon to be ex husband played college football.  He denies that he acknowledged a sexual encounter with another woman or that he cheated, but his wife says she has the DNA proof to prove otherwise.

And that’s what you might call unrefutable evidence.  It’s amazing what couples will do to get the real scoop on if they’re being two timed or not.  It isn’t only a matter of principle, it really is all about one’s self esteem and pride.  Scary thing too sometimes, they say that jealousy is one of the biggest reasons for crimes of passion, as well as for strained relationships - well, besides money I guess it’s the other biggest reason!

Men More Likely to Have More Sexual Partners

Well, duh, most of you (like myself) would probably say to this statement “Men tend to have the biological tendency to sleep around with more women than women do with men.” Well, we can always say there are anomalies for every cliche, but for the cliche that men are much more sexually active if they can be and are in a position to be and can attract women with those pheromones some of us have more than others, than women, this one actually holds true according to new research data that backs up the oldest cliche in the book when it comes to the difference between men and women when it comes to sex.

To be more exact on numbers of sexual partners and how this figure differs between men and women, women surveyed saying they were somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 and more sexual partners was only around ten percent, while men surveyed saying their sexual partners numbered 15 or more so far in their life were around thirty percent, showing a substantial disconnect between the male and female sex when it comes to numbers of sexual partners throughout life.

These numbers would, of course, suggest that men tend to sleep around more than women and be more inclined to have more sex partners in their life than women.  Biologically we do know that men are driven more to have sex, but there are also women who have sex drives that equal and even surpass those of the average man, and this is usually considered somewhat of an anomaly, no matter how unfair that is to the woman.

Think of the HBO series “Sex and the City” where the “nymphomaniac” character Samantha played by Kim Catrall was considered to be somewhat loose.  Men who would play that character would be considered a “ladies man” or just a normal guy who’s looking to get some action everywhere he goes, but for women, the idea is more of a societal taboo, which I would say definitely accounts for the disparity in the percentage figures we discussed for sex partner numbers througout lifetime.

It’s interesting to note that the median, or average number of sexual partners differ significantly from that “15″ number we discussed above though, with men at about 7 partners and women at about 4 partners for their lives most of the times, showing that we aren’t just a bunch of animals having sex with everyone, but also that we as a species are more inclined toward monogamy and staying with partners longer.

This same survey not only focused on sex partner numbers, but also on chastity until marriage views, and divisions of various races and how their sexual views and experiences differed, and it also coupled illicity drug use with the survey, and made correlations between sexual behavior and drug use reporting (that’s for another story though!)

Circumcision Can Affect Penile Sensitivity

New research is suggesting the circumcision, that common surgery that a lot of men get when they’re far too young to remember, where the penile foreskin is  moved back to expose the tip of the penis in a different way, can actually have a great effect on the sensitivity of the penis.  What does this mean exactly?  Well, you guessed it, it means sexual sensitivity, meaning men may get less stimulation from touch on the penis because the foreskin was removed than men who did not have the circumcision, whose foreskin is still intact and receives greater natural sexual enhancement and stimulation

The new study, as with many studies that are conducted a second time around on the same or similar subject matter, actually refutes an earlier study on male circumcision that suggests that the foreskin remaining intact does not provide great sexual enhancement, sensitivity and pleasure related to touching the penis and sensations that men feel when they are sexually aroused.

Here’s the real kicker, when the test subjects penisese were poked and prodded with touching devices by researchers, it was found that the most consistently touchy and sensitive, and therefore most receptive to sexual touch, were the areas that are removed by the circumcision surgery in young boys.  I told you it was a kicker!

For men who were circumcised in the study, it was found that the most sensitive areas of their penis tended to be related to the location of the circumcision scar.  Hmm, even more interesting!  It’s too bad, because circumcision may provide some sort of hygiene, but this even in itself is currently being refuted by some top experts on the subject and male anatomy, saying that the idea circumcision is a health issue is hogwash, and that it does not make men any more or less susceptible to penis health issues.

This is all very interesting, and maybe it will make you think twice about circumcising your male infant if you have one.  It’s always good to read up on this kind of stuff, we all know there are always two sides to every story.
