Vasectomy and Dementia Link

Scientists are working on an interesting new theory, and God knows how they even though to come up with this theory, but it is kind of a scary one, if I do say so myself.  They are now linking the fairly common male surgery to “fix” him and disable his sperm production so that he may not impregnate a woman, the vasectomy, with a higher risk of dementia, a form of mental illness that involves delusional thinking and other unsavory mental side effects.

This specific dementia linked to the vasectomy though, is actually a very rare form of dementia, which may explain why the seemingly obscure link was found.  This specific vasectomy related dementia is marked by a rapid decrease in language skills.  The reason for the link is that an astounding 40% of the men with this rare form of dementia who were surveyed indicated that they had a vasectomy, which makes it at least a big coincidence.

The study was admittedly done with a relatively small group of test subjects though, and researchers are trying to get resources together to get an even bigger and more comprehensive and thorough study together that can perhaps supply a more concrete bed of evidence showing this link is actually very likely.

The dementia is usually brought on along with alzheimers, and is typically only found in those 50 years old and older, but the vasectomy link came about when a patient with this specific dementia said he noticed the symptoms came into play just a few years after he had his vasectomy.
