Importance of Disclosing Sexual Dysfunction to Doctor

It may be more important than you know, and than some doctors know, to disclose any types of sexual problems you are having, likewise it is important for the doctor to ask about these issues, since a patient may not always think a doctor needs to know this especially if he is going in for something completely unrelated to sexual dysfunction.

Some types of sexual dysfunctions can actually be earlier indicators of very serious health issues, such as pending heart failure, depression and other diseases too numerous to mention.  Sexual dysfunction has been identified as a common occurrence recently in studies performed by researchers who are either studying different diseases, or studying a possible relationship between sexual dysfunction and other diseases that present bigger problems and much wider implications than just sexual dysfunction alone.

Apparently this research has prompted new advice to doctors to get specific in their sexual questions, since risky sexual behavior and lack of sexual desire can be indicators of bigger potential health issues.  Just one of the example given was that men with erectile dysfunction have a higher risk for heart disease and heart failure.

Now, we don’t know all the other outside factors of course, such as diet and exercise, genetics, and the numerous other factors that can determine predisposal to heart disease, but still the fact remains that sexual dysfunction and this can definitely be related, so it’s prudent not to ignore the connection.
