Sex Book Causing a Stir
Apparently parents are up in arms about a racy book that is aimed at preteens, who in an ideal world should not yet be having sex, especially since they haven’t even fully matured at that young age enough to make the wisest decisions about their body and about sexual choices.
The book is called “TTYL”, which, in the text and instant messaging world if you’re a little behind on that stuff like I am, means Talk to Ya Later in teen speak. The ridiculous book features a series of “text messages” supposedly between preteens and teens that feature racy situations like sex acts, flirting with adult teachers, and other things that really are a bit too provocative for a teen to be able to get out of the school library or local library.
Here’s my suggestion : Parents, keep an eye on what your kids are reading. Try to keep up on the latest teen lingo, even though I do admit it can be hard at times, myself being a novice in the instant messaging and text messaging world. The book is actually only meant for teens age 14 and up, but many kids that are much younger than that have been able to get it out of the library.
As an educated parent, you can help cut down on unnecessary criticism and censorship in the US and help us to preserve a society where parents are ultimately responsible for the materials their kids get ahold of.
