African Condom Use on the Rise
In the Aids stricken country of Africa, lobbyists have been pushing for increased condom use amongst both men and women to help curb the horrible spread of the AIDS disease, or HIV virus, which seems to be spreading like wildfire over there.
The change is reportedly mostly with young African women, who have reported that they use more condoms more often with their sex partners, due to an increased awareness of the HIV virus and what it can do, especially since the impoverished nation cannot care adequately for it’s people who are stricken with the life threatening disease.
Here in America, people are living longer and longer with the “scary” disease, thanks to many new medications and treatments that are available, like AZT. Shoot, we barely even hear about AIDS any more, so that should tell you that the outlook for AIDS patients is better and it is no longer a death sentence to be diagnosed with it.
However, in Africa, where medication is sparse and only really available to those that can afford it, AIDS almost alwas progresses to the final stages, and then to death, so officials have been scrambling trying to promote AIDS awareness and safe sex.
The concern was that African men, and women especially since they made up the majority of the infected (women tend to be more easily infected with the virus), were not quickly changing their sexual habits in response to the threat of the disease, so the increased condom use is welcome news.
