Viagra Spammer Under Investigation
An Australian man is under investigation for possibly sending out billions of Viagra spam emails over time. The man, who’s name has not yet been released by the Australian authorities investigating the case, allegedly rented out 35 web servers, and had a program that literally constantly sent out the annoying Viagra spam emails that we’ve all become so accustomed to deleting, to the tune of billions within one year.
They said the system he used wasn’t that sophisticated, but he was paying thousands of dollars every month to have the emails go out. Gee, I bet anyone reading this article received at least one of his emails this year. Seems like none of us would be left out.
Spamming, as it is now termed, is actually illegal in the US, as well as most places abroad, and for good reason. It clogs up servers, and wastes people’s precious time by confusing email services who now have to have special bulk files just for the thousands of spam emails received every day.
I can guarantee that we all receive a lot more of this useless spam every day than we do emails from actual friends and acquaintences. What I can’t figure out is, who’s buying this stuff through these emails?
As soon as I see one, even if the offer for the “miracle product” might seem tantalizing, I know that any person of company authorizing the use of spamming is not trustworthy in my book. Not to mention, numerous pharmaceutical sites have been outed for offering fake drugs, or worse, fake versions that can have health consequences.
This is usually an automatic “run the other way” sign, at least for me. I’ll let you know if they release this guy’s name and the upshot of the whole thing. Maybe we can all email him so he sees how it feels…
