“Men Only” Fitness Centers Catching On?
We’ve all seen the women’s only fitness clubs popping up allover the place now - at least here in Ohio, I’ve seen at least 10 new “Curves” gyms, which are exclusively women’s gyms complete with privacy curtains over the windows, coming in to all kinds of plazas around me lately.
Now, some corporation thought it might be a good concept for men who are a little shy about working out in fron of the ladies, to open exclusively men’s gyms. This might seem a little odd, since a lot of guys brag that they “meet ladies” at the gym, but there are also those men who would like to just go to the gym to work out, not to socialize with women or to work out in front of women and feel self conscious.
You see, not only is Curves a women’s only gym, but even the gym equipment in Curves is tailored for women’s smalled frames and bone structure, as well as specific weights, timings, and everything else suited more for toning and trimming a woman’s, not a man’s body.
The new franchise is called Cut’s Fitness for Men, and it’s all about the men this time. They are tailoring these men’s only gyms to be for the guy who may not have been to the gym for a while, and is intimidated about going in front of women in the type of workout atmosphere that’s often all “meatheads” with big muscles at workout chains like Gold’s Gyms and Ballys Total Fitness gyms, where designer bodies seem to predominate the scene, and a “clubbie” type of pickup atmosphere is often complained about.
The Cut’s Fitness franchise has not yet reached the popularity of renowned pinnacle like the Curves women’s fitness centers have, but the founder is hoping that it is on its way.
