Men Use the Headache Excuse Too

It’s been a long standing cliche that women who don’t want to have sex with their husbands use the excuse “Honey, sorry I have a headache”.

Well, it seems nowadays men’s libido’s are also suffering from high stress jobs and lifestyles, and men are now turning the game on their spouses, saying they’re just too tired or “they have a headache”.

Think about how many opportunities we have to have intimate moments with our significant others, and how those moments are wasted because one of the pair just isn’t in the mood due to lack of energy, or pure lack of libido for the moment.

Stress busters like yoga, exercise and other forms of relaxation like massage and meditation may be just the answer for the millions of stressed out Americans who don’t even have the energy or mental stamina to have sex with their partners. Think of the marriages it would save!

New Contraceptive Approved

A new contraceptive has been approved by the FDA for female usage that may make life a little easier. The rod shaped contraceptive called Implanon is implanted in a woman’s arm for up to three years, much like the Norplant contraceptive was before it stopped selling the product in the US amidst consumer complaints and lawsuits over side effects. It means less headaches about remembering to take pills and less worry about pregnancy for both parties in a relationship.

The implanted contraceptive is manufactured by a company called Organon USA, and has actually been sold in more than 30 countries except the US, which notoriously has more stringent rules on passing medications through the rigorous FDA approval process than most other countries do.

The implant is about the size of a match, and works to prevent pregnancy by sending out low dosages of the hormone progestin, which prevents pregnancy by preventing implantation of the egg in the uterus, and of the sperm fertilizing the egg. It is also known to stop menstruation in some women, and boasts a 99% percent success rate, similar to that of the traditional birth control pill, in preventing pregnancy.

Sexual Healing : Showtime’s New Reality Show

Well, this is a first. It’s a reality show that’s all about sexual healing and couple sex therapy. So if you and your hubby or partner are having problems in the bedroom or in other areas of nookie, then you may not have to pay for professional advice, as long as one of the scenarios in “Sexual Healing” is close enough to yours that you can take away some good advice.

The new reality show all about sex features Dr. Laura Berman, a sex therapist and sex educator. The therapist talks to three couples about their sexual issues and tries to get them to talk openly and communicate with eachother and her about it, so they can start “sexually healing”.

This show will give viewers upfront, honest, and at times graphic, talk about sex in a manner that you would get with a real sex therapist. Think of it as Dr. Ruth for the twenty first century.

Maybe now that we have a reality show that can actually help people’s interpersonal relationships instead of turning them into mindless couch potatoes watching weekly vote-offs, I’ll actually start to like reality tv again!

Best Foods for Prostate Cancer Prevention

There have been some “best foods” listed by medical professionals as well as oncology researchers (people who research cancers), and they’ve come up with a list of foods that are deemed to be the best foods to take in which will help you defend yourself against the possibility of developing prostate cancer, which is men’s equivalent to women’s breast cancer.

These foods may not be foods that you instantly are going to jump for joy over, but with a little diet modification, and open mindedness, you may actually find yourself enjoying these foods, which are thought of as the quintessential “health foods” and may be thought of as vegetarian type foods by some of you.  But like I said, be open minded.

It’s your life at stake here, and prostate cancer is a killer disease in men, especially because it is particularly hard to diagnose and catch as we get older due to symptoms being not so easily deciphered.

Good Foods for Prostate Health:

Soy

Fruits

Vegetables

Tomatoes

Mushrooms

Garlic

Vitamin E

Green Tea

All of these foods have been shown to help reduce PSA levels in men by increasing the antioxidant levels in the blood as well as helping to regulate hormonal activities.  Not only are they good for your prostate, but these foods are considered a sort of “super food” in that they are very rich in other nutrients which typically destroy harmful cancer cells in our bodies.

Men’s Dietary Supplements

Do you take a daily men’s multivitamin or men-specific dietary supplement daily?  If you aren’t you may be missing out on some key nutrients that you may not be getting in enough abundance daily that men’s body’s in particular need in larger quantities.  Take for example the mineral Zinc, which is in most men’s dietary supplements and vitamins for men’s health.

Zinc is a mineral that most men do not get enough daily intake in their diet through the foods they eat, which is a critical nutrient to men’s sexual health and sexual performance.  Not only that, zinc is good for other things like the skin, hair and nails as well as brain function.

Not only that, but zinc deficiency has been closely related to hair loss in men, which is something that is near and dear to any man.  Zinc is definitely one of the biggies when it comes to men’s health and continued youthfulness.

Other vitamins and minerals that you may find in a men’s daily multi vitamin or dietary supplements such as the popular GNC brand called Mega Man vitamins, which also happen to be a favorite of body builders, are B vitamin complexes, essential for energy and longevity, Lutein, lycopene and alpha lipoic acid which are all forms of amino acids for cell strength, and others that are all part of the whole energy chain as well as providing ingredients that will make men feel more virile and youthful.

Overall, I think supplementing your diet with a men’s dietary supplement is a great idea for continued health and longevity.  It’s also great because sometimes you simply can’t get all the foods in that you need to eat to get your daily allowance of many of these nutrients, and these supplements are a great way to ensure that.

How Sleep May Help Your Sex Life

Getting enough sleep helps so many of our body’s functions, including our ability to think clearly and to perform physically.  So it only makes sense that getting the adequate amount of sleep that you personally need would help boost of increase the quality of your sex life and sexual performance.

I  know lots of guys who complain that sometimes they just don’t have the energy to be romantic or engage in sex with their partners.  This may be due to  a lack of sleep, a long day at work, or other stressors that tend to drain our sex life of quality and quantity.

It’s been proven that lack of sleep can help to drain our libido as well, because lack of sleep simply destroys all willpower to do anything that requires extra thought, concentration, or physical energy output.

So, How Much Sleep is Enough that Your Sex Life Doesn’t Suffer?

Well, the good old rule of thumb of eight hours of solid, continuous and high quality sleep may definitely play in here.  For many years, the eight hour rule has been adhered to as a safe number to assume is the right amount of sleep for most individuals, including men and women, and getting less than this may actually zap women’s and men’s libido due to exhaustion both mentally and physically.

Think about it, when our bodies and minds are tired, we only do the “bare minimum” to get through our day.  We may skip that workout, or other strenuous activity, and instead opt to veg out in front our tv or computers all night. The last thing on our mind is going to be something that is not an absolute necessity, like eating or drinking, but instead a carnal pleasure that is not needed to sustain ourselves (well, this could be argued).

So, get your 8 hours, or as close to it as you can every night, and your sex life should not suffer.  Also remember, getting TOO MUCH sleep can also be detrimental to your  body functions, so if anything, try to get 7-8 hours of sleep instead of 9-10 hours of sleep.

What is a PSA Count?

When you think of PSA count, if you have even heard it before, you probably automatically think of prostate cancer. And you’re right. Your “PSA count” is related to prostate cancer. PSA stands for Prostate Specific Antigen. Well, the term PSA is actually not really correct because it refers to antigens that are produced both within the prostate and in the breast tissue, so it’s not really “specific” to the prostate in men.

When prostate cancer occurs in a man, the number of cells in the prostate becomes too overcrowded and the cells begin to multiply erratically as with any other cancerous growth. What then happens is somewhat of a chain reaction, because when this abnormal crowding of good, healthy cells in the prostate occurs, the cells then produce more PSA, which inhibits angiogenesis of its surrounding cells. Angiogenesis is the spurred growth of blood vessels, which eventually leads to a cancerous tumor.

Conventional, modern day physicians usually will use a measurement of a man’s “PSA levels” to determine that treatment course should be taken for the prostate cancer. The alarming fact which I read about this method of measurement though, is that prostate cancer patients in other countries where PSA tests are no longer used have the same or better survival rates as countries that still use these PSA tests. What does this mean?

You should really explore your options and even unconventional methods of prostate cancer treatment if you ever get it, in my humble opinion. Find out what the real statistics are for various treatments, even if it’s not what your traditional doctor recommends. Just keep an open mind.

Earlier today I ran a story about sex addiction.  Well, apparently there is also such a thing as “cyebersexual addiction”, and I’m sure you can guess with internet dating and the plethora of internet sexual stuff what that means.

Actually, the definition of cybersexual addiction is : It is a specific subcategory of sex addiction, as well as “internet addiction”, where a person who is addicted to surfing the internet becomes involved in a cybersexual relationship with a real person online of becomes addicted to internet pornography.

So far, the limited studies on this type of addiction who no surprising outcome : that men are more likely to be addicted to the pornographic angle of the internet, whereas women are more likely to become engaged in a “cybersexual relationship” online with someone whom she engages in erotic talk with through instant message, or chatrooms.

Men Who are Circumcised Infected with HIV Less?

There’s a new awareness being spread now, that circumcision just may save you from HIV infection if God forbid you ever are exposed. The WHO, or World Health Organization actually reported this saying that circumcising more men in Africa may help prevent the spread of the disease, which unfortunately has spread like wildfire over there, because of rampant rapes and absence of condoms.

The research trials showed that men who had been circumcised demonstrated a significantly lower risk of infection with the AIDS virus. It is estimated that roughly 2 million HIV infections could be avoided if all men were to be circumcised over the next ten years.

How Does Circumcision Mitigate the Risk of HIV Infection?

Scientists on the trials believe that circumcision helps cut infection risk because the foreskin is covered in cells the virus can supposedly infect more easily than if the foreskin was absent, as in circumcision. Not only that, but the AIDS virus has a better chance of survival, like any other virus, in warm and wet conditions, as those that are found in the foreskin area.
