Men Tend to Lie About Their Number of Sex Partners

In a story today that I read, studies on human behavior have shown that men tend to exaggerate the number of sex partners they’ve had more than twice as much as women.
Which makes sense, considering sleeping with many women is a “badge of honor” in the male community, whereas women are afraid to exaggerate their number of sexual partners, being afraid they may be labeled as a “slut”. Talk about double standard!

Here is what the psychologist who headed up the study had to say about the difference between men and women referring to sexual partner numbers:

Women rely on a raw count, a method Brown says is known to result in a number that is lower than what is true in reality.

“They tend to say, ‘I just know,’ and if you ask them to explain how they know, they say, ‘Well, there was John, Tom, etc.’”

Men also rely on a flawed strategy in estimating their number of sex partners.

“Men are twice as likely to use rough approximation to answer the question,” Brown said. “And rough approximation is a strategy known to produce over-estimation.”
