Men’s Health Update : Virus Found in Prostate Cancer Patients?

I read an interesting article yesterday about how a virus is being found as a common denominator in many prostate cancer patients. Can this be the missing link to this killer male disease? Are they just in their earliest stages of discovery, or is their really something to it?

The search for preventive measures and cures for all types of cancer is really taking on a new importance today, especially with the prevalence of cancer today.

The finding may suggest that disease could play a role alongside genetics and the environment in causing this cancer.

The virus, which is very closely related to one previously found solely in mice, was found in cancerous prostates removed from men with a particular genetic defect. These new findings open uncharted avenues for studying the most common major cancer among men in the United States. Did you know that prostate cancer, if given the chance, would eventually be the fate of all men? That’s right, if you lived long enough and didn’t happen to die of other natural causes, scientific speculation is that the prostate would eventually become cancerous. Interesting huh? Not sure if it’s entirely true, but this rumor has been circulating for a while on this mysterious and hard to treat cancer (once it’s in advanced stages at least).

A quote from one of the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland is actually my alma mater) researchers heading up the research study project looks promising, as if they are really on the brink of some amazing discoveries for this killer disease:

“We have made a very fascinating discovery never before seen in humans that is very similar to one found in a mammal that causes cancer,” Dr. Eric Klein of the Cleveland Clinic said at a news conference. “But we have not proven this virus causes prostate cancer.”
